Gastric Bypass
Achieving Excellence

In 2007, WCH was designated as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. The designation recognizes bariatric surgical programs that have demonstrated track records of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery. |
Women & Children’s Hospital has a reputation for quality and meeting our patient’s needs. We want to know our patients and their concerns. Gastric Bypass is more than just surgery to us, it’s a lifechanging event and we will be here with you throughout the process. We have built a program that caters to the patient’s unique circumstances and desires with good health and a healthy lifestyle in mind.
Weight-loss options for you
Women & Children’s Hospital (WCH) offers a comprehensive surgical weight-loss program featuring board-certified general surgeons Richard Shimer, M.D., and Keith Chung, M.D., who perform minimally invasive gastric bypass and Lap-Band procedures. Gastric bypass surgery makes the stomach smaller by creating a pouch at the top of the stomach, which allows food to bypass part of the small intestine, causing you to feel full more quickly. During Lap-Band, a silicone band is placed around the upper part of the stomach and divides the stomach into a small portion above the band and a larger portion below the band. The smaller section limits the amount of food the stomach can hold.
